Feeling emotions but not being controlled by them

There has been a lot of talk in my close circle about the positivity vibe and how it can be off putting to some and others think it’s totally possible to be positive all time. Whilst I don’t think there is one correct answer, I do believe there is a social media positivity which is almost an expectation that people think they should live up to, and research shows that people are beginning to feel guilty by feeling what is considered a “bad emotion”.  Bad emotions such as guilt, anger, disappointment, sadness, worry grief are all equally as important as feeling emotions that are positive – tranquility, peace, happiness, contentment, joy.

See the issue is not about “feeling the emotion” its rather those people who “live in a negative emotional state” and can’t shake it off or pick themselves out of it which is the real problem.  If someone who had lost a loved one showed no “bad” emotion such as grief and sadness we would consider them strange.  Its very normal human behaviour and it applies to every area of our life.

The key is resilience and not letting our emotions control us or lead us in our decisions when it is not in our best interest.  Resilience gives us the power to overcome all of our “negative” or normal emotions and “bad” or normal feelings so we can continue to be productive in areas of our life then we need to be.

If we apply this to our businesses then we can recognise our emotional state and continue to do the things that need to be done to help us progress.  As entrepreneurs it’s really important to be able to do that.  When you are employed by an employer – you may be having a relationship breakdown, a loss of a loved one, or other traumatic experiences.  However, we will still go to our job complete what we need to do and if necessary take time out to work through our emotional state. This generally is a much bigger struggle when you are working for yourself.  Probably because most of the time you can work for yourself at any time and you always think you need a bit of time which then ends up being hours and then before you know it you haven’t worked on your business in weeks.  I know I have experienced this many times and it has been a huge mindset shift to be able to work my business and deal with my emotional state at times.

Thats why a morning mindset routine to start your day is so important.

Don’t brush aside any issues you are going through – always make sure you a checking your emotions and working through what you need to and seek help if you feel you need it.  Sometimes this can be a mindset mentor, a coach or even a counsellor.

Have you had issues dealing with your emotional state as an entrepreneur?  How di you manage this?
